Abstract:

Effective prompting and error correction are essential components of skill acquisition in ABA. This presentation is designed for Registered Behavior Technicians and focuses on building a practical understanding of prompting strategies and error correction procedures used during teaching sessions. The training begins with a review of key terminology related to prompting and error correction, followed by a discussion of why these strategies are critical for supporting learner success and minimizing the development of prompt dependency.

Participants will be introduced to different response prompt levels and stimulus prompts, with examples to illustrate how to use these prompts in practice. The presentation will also cover common types of prompt fading procedures, emphasizing the importance of systematically reducing prompts to promote independent responding. Finally, simple error correction procedures will be reviewed, including how to respond effectively to learner errors while maintaining instructional momentum and positive learner engagement.

By the end of this presentation, RBTs will have a clearer understanding of how to implement prompting and error correction consistently and effectively to support skill acquisition and independence across learning environments.
